September 5-11

Found the beautiful Playa Blanca!
Almost every sign here is made of wood, hand painted and nailed to a tree!
Part of the beach was just completely made of rocks and little pieces of coral. Fascinating!

I love how a stump on the beach can create a beautiful picture. There was so many fun and creative things to explore at this beach.

Check out this palm tree. What is the history behind this? Did it fall in a storm and the locals tried to save it with this support stick? And then as all plants do, it starts to grow upward to the sun. Seems like you could create fabulous analogies about how this tree could represent each of our lives. I am grateful for people in my life that are my support stick, who have held me up during low times and helped me stand up straight again.

Or it could just be that it was created for kids to play on! (Kids and adults who act like kids.) It was super cool.

There are so many wonderful places to explore in CR. Usually it takes a couple hours to get to the waterfall, or to the volcano, or the national park. But sometimes you find hidden gems right in your “backyard”. There is a hike in the hills behind us that not only give you an amazing view of Jaco, but lead you to the abandoned ruins of El Miro. You start at the main road and hike up this paved road that turned into a dirt road with a wall along one side full of mesmerizing Aztec like artwork

As if the wall wasn’t cool enough, you keep hiking up the hill and discover more amazing architecture and another path that leads to an old palace full of beautiful views, art/graffiti, and stories from all over the world. People signed their name…”Johnson family 2021″ or shared their talent creating different genres of incredible art.

Everyone was convinced that we could restore this ruin to a full time operating, multi-level restaurant!
I love that Costa Rica is so full of color!
So many funny pictures!
So many cool things to see on the way.

More great signs! I think you could have a full time job here as a sign maker!

If you loved this place, you could even stay at the Villa Mariposa Bed and Breakfast.

These two cuties spend their days teaching and surfing and selling empanadas!

Kennahdy was transferred to the Pre-K program at the school working with 1,2,3, and 4 year olds. I am pretty sure they love her!!!

Get Your Hot Argentine Empanadas!

This weekend we ventured off to Cataratas Nauyaca. (Yep-another waterfall!!!) The long drive and the 5 mile hike was worth it!

This majestic waterfall has two different levels to explore. This is the upper level with sharp rocks and a powerful mist.

Of coarse the boys are off to explore and see how close to the waterfall they can get. I’m convinced that in his life, there is little that will get in Kymbles’ way. I have to keep telling him that he hasn’t been home long enough for me to loose him again. NO FEAR!!!! He may look more like me, but he definitely has his Father’s spirit.

This is the lower waterfall. More room to explore here, and the perfect place for Marshall to get some great drone shots.

Yep, those are my people climbing rocks and trying to not get swept down the river by the current. I think they gave other people courage to try and explore too.

“Don’t do it!”

I actually do love that they are brave enough to try new things. Travis has led the way in this their whole life. I often use the excuse that someone needs to stay behind and capture the moment. But if I’m being honest, I think I lake the self confidence sometimes and should probably push myself to do things that I feel like I can’t. My physical body has failed me many times in life, but then there are moments that I look at these kids of mine and think, ” I brought them here. I can do hard things. There’s a part of me in them.” They push me along, inspire me everyday with their strength and good desires. They teach me, help me, and carry me and I am so glad to be their mom.

The hikes to waterfalls are always so much fun.

Love these massive bamboo bushes.

Little streams and rivers everywhere

Do not attempt to climb this tree?!?

Crossing the bridge to get back to parking lot was just too tempting for the boys.

“We came all the way out here. We have to jump!”

On the way home we noticed this airplane in the middle of nowhere. It has been turned into an actual hotel. 2 rooms to choose from. (First class and Economy???haha) Complete with a restaurant built next to it. What do you think??? Would you spend a night at this place?
